Preventing Unauthorised Vehicle Access – Birmingham City Council
The Challenge
Birmingham City Council needed a durable vehicle access control system to stop cars and vans from entering a driveway between 2 blocks of flats. Repeated unauthorised access was causing damage to grassed areas, creating safety risks for children and pedestrians, and resulting in frequent, costly maintenance call-outs.
Temporary barriers and bollards had failed to provide a lasting solution, so the Council required a permanent, high-visibility deterrent that could withstand daily use and harsh weather conditions.
Our Solution
Secure A Fence designed, manufactured, and installed a heavy-duty steel swing barrier, engineered in the UK to our own in-house standards.
The barrier was custom-built to secure the green space’s main access point while still allowing authorised vehicles — such as maintenance crews and emergency services — to enter when required.
To meet the Council’s specification:
The barrier was fabricated from galvanised steel for long-term corrosion resistance.
It was powder-coated bright yellow (RAL 1021) for maximum visibility.
A secure locking system was fitted to prevent unauthorised entry.
This installation is part of Secure A Fence ongoing work with local councils and housing authorities across the UK, providing long-term, low-maintenance solutions that prevent traveller encampments, protect public open spaces, and improve community safety.
The Result
Since installation, unauthorised vehicle access has been completely eliminated. The barrier has prevented further damage, reduced maintenance costs, and improved the safety and enjoyment of the local community.
The site now benefits from a secure, long-lasting, and low-maintenance access control system, supporting Birmingham City Council’s commitment to public safety and environmental protection — another strong example of Secure A Fence Barriers’ reliable, UK-made solutions in action.
